PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF GHANA DEPARTMENT OF CHURCH LIFE AND NURTURE GUIDELINES FOR ORGANIZING CHURCH LIFE AT VARIOUS LEVELS OF THE CHURCH

BACKGROUND

These guidelines indicate the structures that need to be set up at the various courts of the church in order for concerns relating to the social and spiritual life of the church to be effectively addressed.

Organizational Structure

Congregation Level: There will be a Committee with the name Congregational Committee on Church Life and Nurture (CCCLAN).

OBJECT OF THE COMMITTEE

The Committee shall be the Ministry Team on Church Life and Nurture which will coordinate and advise the Session on matters relating to Spiritual Nurture and needs of the various generational groups and other ministry areas of the Congregation and its members.

A) Membership

1. A Coordinator (Secretary) to be appointed by session

2. A Children’s Service Teacher

3. A J Y Leader

4. A YPG Representative

5. A YAF Representative

6. A Women’s Fellowship Representative

7. A Men’s Fellowship Representative

8. A Church choir Representative

9. A Singing Band Representative

10.A Church Band/Brass Band Representative

11.A Boys/Girls Brigade Representative

12.A Senior Citizen

13.A Counselor

14.2 Presbyters

• The Chairperson of the Committee shall be appointed by Session out of the membership above 2

B1. Functions of the Coordinator

He/ She is the prime mover of the work.

The Coordinator has both Ministry and administrative functions. Working under the guidance of the Congregational Committee on Church Life and Nurture and Functions as follows:

• Supervises and promotes the activities of the generational, inter generational and other ministry groups in the local Congregation

• Ensures that all members of the church are committed to its activities

• Ensures that study materials are available for use by all groups/members within the congregations

• Coordinates retreats, camps, seminars/workshops and other training courses for all groups within the Congregation

• Submits reports on the above activities to Session through the CCCLAN B2. Functions of the Committee

• Responsible for advising Session on issues relating to lay training at the congregational level

• Determination of strategies for the implementation of programmes

• Advise the Session on human resource needs of the Congregation

• Recommend to the local Session candidates for both the ordained and lay ministries

• Consider and recommend special methods of evangelism, in consultation with the Evangelism Committee, and discipleship among all the groups

• Build the capacity of leadership at the Congregational level

• Submits quarterly and annual reports to the Session

District Level: There will be a Committee with the name District Committee on Church Life and Nurture (DCCLAN).

OBJECT OF THE COMMITTEE

The Committee shall advise the District Session on matters related to Spiritual Nurture of the various congregations in the District

A) Membership

1. The Chairperson of the District Children’s Service Teachers Union

2. The President of the District JY 3

3. The District Organiser, YPG

4. The District President, YAF

5. The District President, Women’s Fellowship

6. The District President, Men’s Fellowship

7. The District President, Singing Bands Union

8. The District President, Church Choirs Union

9. The District President, Boys/Girls Brigade

10.An Educationist

11.A Senior Citizen

12.A Counselor

13.Two District Session Members

• The Chairperson and Secretary of the Committee shall be appointed by the District Session. The chairperson is to come from one of the two District Session members

B) Functions

1. To advise the District session on matters related to activities of the generational , inter generational and other groups in the District

2. Coordinates all congregational activities as they relate to Church Life and

Nurture

3. Liaise with the Presbytery Committee on Christian Education to ensure that study materials are available for use by all congregations within the District

4. Consider factors in the social life of the District that endanger the proper status and welfare of children, youth , men and women and advise the District Session

5. Conduct research into the traditional worship within the District so as to contribute to the indigenization and enrichment of Church Worship

6. Advise District Session in consultation with Committee on Administration and Human Resource Management, on human resource needs of the District

7. Give endorsement for candidates for both the ordained and lay ministries

8. Submits quarterly and annual Reports to the District Session 4
